A Trip to the Beach

Posted by allie on July 27, 2007

I’ve been reading Harry Potter. Not the new one, however, I’m currently reading the 5th. I began the 1st on my trip to Missouri this month and should be onto the 7th by next week. I can’t wait! Additionally, I went to see the 5th movie yesterday and loved it, despite its differences from the book. I loved Luna’s sweaters: the purple crochet in the forest and the blue knit in the Dept of Mysteries. ( I will look for pics while I write this post)

Anyway, what I’ve been knitting this sunny week:

Clapotis

Cotton makes for an excellent beach knit. I’ve made quite a bit of progress. The plan is to have this done by August 15 for (beach) grandma’s birthday.

Adventure Bag

I know this is a hideous picture, but it’s almost done!! I bound it off last night, but I also put the stitch holders in the wrong place, so I’ll definitely have to fix it. Probably during the 12-hour car trip home tomorrow, while reading HP5! I can’t wait to finish this bag- I’m thinking bottomless pit for all of school’s must-haves.

Swatching for Sideways Socks

This is what I worked on during the HP5 movie, so the sideways socks should be cast on pretty soon. They’re going to replace the Cable Nets as my sock in progress since those were just too fiddly for me.

And now, some Friday eye candy:

The dishcloths are off!!

Cast-on: July 17, 2007/ Finished: July 20, 2007

Pattern: BallBand Dishcloth from Mason-Dixon Knitting

Yarn: (1) Sugar n Cream in Countryside Ombre and Sage, (2) Sugar n Cream in Westport and Cornflower Blue, (3) Sugar n Cream in Countryside Ombre, Sage, and Grape, Lion Cotton in Black, (4) Sugar n Cream in Cornflower Blue, Westport, and Wine

Needles: US 7 Knitpicks options

Pattern thoughts: This is such a great reading project, one purl row every 6 rows and the slip stitches make it more interesting. I love this pattern, I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to knit another dishcloth pattern (I’m a big fan of mindless knits!)

Now back to other projects.

*Here’s to hoping some of you are Feist lovers.

One a Day…

Posted by allie on July 18, 2007

For the month of July, I’ve been crocheting a square for each day. I noticed today that it’s just right for Project Spectrum as well. I will be making strips of squares soon, so that I can tell how big the afghan should be and how many more squares I have to make.

When I’m not crocheting, I’m knitting Ballband Dishcloths for my aunts in Missouri who were such excellent hostesses.

The same blues,  but in reverse, plus a cute kitty.

Here’s what I’m thanking them for:

Fear of Finishing: The List

Posted by allie on July 12, 2007

Regal Silk Sweater

1. Pick up sts around neckline, do something fancy and bind off.

2. Pick up sts around sleeves, do something even fancier, and bind off.

3. Block sweater and hope to God that the ribbing is long enough to cover my belly. If not, pick up sts around bottom and continue to rib until it does fit. (Really hoping I don’t have to do this.)

Katja

1. Crochet edging (which requires that I purchase a proper size crochet hook)

2. Block and weave in ends

Noni Adventure Bag

1. Calculate how much yarn I have left and how best to use it all in the completion of the pattern.

2. Felt and “block” to measurements

Now, that doesn’t sound too bad, but for some reason it probably won’t be done as quickly as I want it to be.

I will post some vacation shots tomorrow.

En Vacance

Posted by allie on July 7, 2007

I left yesterday for Missouri, to visit my mom’s family. We’ve been spending the day lounging by the pool with a various assortment of mixed drinks.
Me? I’ve been knitting. The Regal Silk Sweater to be exact. I have one more pattern repeat before I have to bind off for the front neckline!!
In the car yesterday, however, I spent my time finishing off a couple skeins of Cascade 220 on the Noni Adventure Bag. My aunt has a top-loading washer (we don’t) so I may have a few FO’s to show before long.
Anyway, I probably will not be able to post until Wednesday.
So keep on knitting, I know I will be. How else do you keep sane with family? Especially when you’ve been chosen to be the designated driver on a wine-tasting tour?
